What are vascular lesions?
When the blood vessels under our skin which normally remain invisible begin to swell up and show on the upper surface. These blood cells in the dermis may be caused to expand and bloat up due exposure to ultraviolet rays, skin irritation caused by allergies, as a side effect of medication, other pathological changes or due to normal physiological changes. Various changes in the blood vessels of our faces is known as vascular lesions. These lesions distort our facial appearance and they can be mended using the laser treatment.
How does the laser treatment work?
Vascular lesions do not disappear on their own and need to be treated. Laser treatment is the best remedy for removing vascular lesions. There are several laser techniques to treat these lesions and few of them are- PDL or pulsed dye laser, ND: YAG laser and IPL or intense pulse light. The rays from these lasers are focused on lesions or targeted on the blood vessels that has broken out to form a lesion below the surface of the skin. The heat produced by this beam of light destroys the blood vessel or the lesion keeping the surrounding skin tissues intact.
The time taken to treat a vascular lesion depends on its size but generally it is a work of few minutes. Most of the vascular lesions can be treated in a single session but again it depends on the size and condition of the lesion. Vascular lesions have been mostly successfully treated by the use of laser till date and does not involve any complicated side effects apart from initial reddening of the treated area.
